CEFTA Week 2009

The first ever “CEFTA Week” organised in Podgorica, under the auspices of the Montenegrin Chairmanship of CEFTA saw over 140 participants take part in a variety of CEFTA related seminars and workshops. Participants included government officials from all the CEFTA Parties, business people from the region and beyond, academics and students and international experts from the EC, EBRD, GTZ, IFC, OECD and the World Bank.

Topics discussed included the role of trade in improving the investment climate; what new developments could take place under CEFTA; the problems encountered by businesses as they try to trade within the CEFTA region; the impact of trade agreements on determining where industries locate; the need for greater involvement of academics from CEFTA Parties in analysing trade issues and providing policy recommendations; the results achieved under the Montenegrin Chairmanship; CEFTA’s role in the EU accession process and the plans of the forthcoming Serbian Chairmanship.
